What’s to Come in News & Entertainment in 2016

For the past two years, Pink & Black has previewed what is ahead in the world of news and entertainment.

This year, things are getting beefed up. There are some major news events of note to come in the year ahead. First and foremost is the presidential election. It’s been a complete media circus, largely because of the candidates running. Trump’s media coverage, in particular, is hard to escape. If only the election were sooner than November.

Another event that will definitely have major coverage is the Olympics in Rio. The summer Olympics only happen every four years, and there is already a lot of controversy bubbling.

On the lighter side, there is still a lot to come in the entertainment world. There’s always the extended list of award shows. Not that any future plans are dictated by this list, but it’s still helpful to have.

However, there are a few specific entertainment milestones that will be hit in the upcoming year. One of the biggest releases in the book world, and perhaps across all forms of media, is the release of The Winds of Winter by George R.R. Martin. The sixth book is going to be massive. Not only is the book itself getting coverage because of the wait time, but also because the next season of Game of Thrones is going to surpass currently published material if it isn’t released.

On the blockbuster front, superheroes continue to be a big screen focus. X-Men Apocalypse, Batman v Superman, Captain America: Civil War, Deadpool, and Suicide Squad are some of the largest films to come. Other anticipated huge hits include the all-female Ghostbusters, The Jungle Book, Finding Dory, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Lastly, it’s a bit early to place bets on 2016 TV shows. However, there’s always the roller coaster of keeping track of this year’s cancellations.

So finish this year with a glass of champagne in hand. 2016 is going to be just as crazy as this year was.
