Non-Cheesy Winter Date Ideas

Winter dates bring visions of ice skating, holding hands in the snow, and dreamily gazing into each others eyes over hot chocolate.

Yuck. Check out our ideas for holiday dates that aren’t cheesy, but still take advantage of the season.

Build a Gingerbread House

Get your creative juices flowing by making a gingerbread house together. You can buy a premade kit, or if you’re feeling very ambitious (and have a full afternoon to dedicate to the task), you can bake your own. Stock up on candies to decorate with and spend the day with your sweetie.

Go for a Winter Hike

You’ve probably been hiking in the other seasons, but winter is an exceptionally beautiful time to go explore the woods. The snow is gorgeous, and you can enjoy the scenery while also getting in some exercise. Be sure to wear winter workout gear, and pack plenty of water and some snacks to keep you moving.

Movie Marathon

Who says you need to brave the cold to have a fun holiday date? Pick a bunch of films or a television series and host a Netflix marathon. Let the snow fall outside as you stay snuggled up in blankets with plenty of snacks. Stick with traditional Christmas movies, or take turns sharing all of your favorites.

Visit an Aquarium

Aquariums are a super fun and unique indoor date. They’re usually nice and warm inside, and have tons of cool fish and animals that will keep you busy for a full morning or afternoon. Most major aquariums have daily schedules of shows and special exhibits, so be sure to check online before you plan your date.

Play Decoration Bingo

There are tons of holiday decorations out this time of year, but just looking at them can get a little bit boring. Turn it into a game by playing Bingo! Use a pre-made Bingo card such as this one, or work with your date before heading out to create your own. Then, go on a walk or car ride around the neighborhood to look at all the decorations and see what you can find.

Volunteer Together

‘Tis the season of giving! Spend a day with your date giving back to your community. You can learn a lot about people by doing community service with them, and giving back will make you feel great. Volunteer at a soup kitchen, local school, animal shelter, work with veterans, or visit an elderly home.
